Route test configuration options
The options are grouped into which addresses may be traced and the mechanism used to trace them.
Address tracing options
| Option | Description |

| Bi-directional | When enabled, the route is traced in both directions, giving a fuller picture of path performance to and from the target. |
| Allow users to choose the address to trace | Lets the user enter the address to trace. The Initial trace address pre-populates the field on load; the special value CLIENT means tracing from the server to the browser client's IP (or from a satellite to the server). Tick Allow local address traces to permit private/local addresses, and Restrict traces to within the following IPs / IP ranges to limit tracing to the ranges you list (one IP or range per line, for example 10.0.0.0-10.0.0.255). |
| Trace a preset list of addresses only | Restricts tracing to a fixed list, traced in the order shown (one IP or address per line). A satellite traces the full list; a browser client traces the first entry. CLIENT again refers to the opposite endpoint of the test. |
Note: When a test runs from a satellite, only the preset list applies.
Trace mechanism options
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Use OmniPath tracing system | Discovers all routes to the target rather than a single path, revealing load-balanced or multi-path routing. |
| Minimum pings per hop | The minimum number of pings sent to each hop along the route. |
| Ping timeout | How long to wait for a response from a hop, in milliseconds. After this time the response is treated as null. |
| Non-responsive threshold | The number of timed-out responses before a hop is treated as non-responsive. |
| Terminate after | The number of consecutive non-responsive hops after which the end destination is assumed to be unresponsive and the trace stops. |
| Minimum pings per node | OmniPath only. The minimum number of pings sent to each node discovered by OmniPath. |
| Node timeout | OmniPath only. The maximum time to wait for the minimum responses of a node to be met, in milliseconds. |
