Move MCS to a New Server

Transfer MyConnection Server to a new server while preserving all data, user accounts, and settings.

Overview

MyConnection Server (MCS) is fully self-contained, making it easy to move between servers by simply copying the installation directory.

It is also compatible across operating systems, allowing seamless migration without reconfiguration.

All data, user accounts, and settings remain intact throughout the transfer process.

Step 1: Stop the Service

To prevent file corruption and ensure a complete transfer, stop the service before copying the directory. This guarantees that no active writes interfere with the process, preserving all data integrity.

Linux

Run the stop_nqc.sh script:

sudo sh stop_nqc.sh

Windows

Use the Services Manager:

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type services.msc and press Enter.
  3. In the Services window, scroll down and locate Visualware MyConnection Server (#xxxxxx).
  4. Right-click the service and select Stop.
  5. Wait for the service to stop before proceeding with any file transfers.

Step 2: Backup & Move

Before proceeding, create a backup of MyConnection Server (MCS) to ensure a rollback option is available if needed. To back up MCS, simply copy the entire installation directory. This backup can also be compressed for easier transfer to the new server, where it can be extracted into the preferred directory.

Step 3: Prepare and Over-install

Before starting the over-install, locate the MCS license key, as it may need to be re-entered once the over-install is complete.

Download the latest version of MyConnection Server (MCS). This will be used to over-install the directory on the new server, ensuring a proper activation. Even if migrating between Linux and Windows, this step finalizes the installation and ensures full functionality.
